Well known in Jesmond, Something Good is a shop you can go to buy everyday plant-based, cruelty-free and low-waste goods. They stock books about zero-waste living, compostable and low-waste household items, homeware, skincare and beauty such as shampoo and shaving bars. We love them because they make it so fun and easy to treat yourself whilst treating the planet. With workshops and events for making your own candles and kombucha, there’s something for everyone! If you know someone who loves to pamper themselves and try new things, gift them and the planet ‘something good’.

The flower folk create beautifully handmade, seasonal bunches and bouquets for all occasions. Prioritising quality and craftsmanship, these folk stock seasonal fresh and dried flowers as well as handmade christmas wreaths to take home or gift to your nature loving friend (with christmas delivery!). Know someone who is flower crazy? These folk have a flower subscription as well as floristry and festive workshops which accommodate for all budgets. We love them because they create such beautiful products whilst reducing their carbon footprint and prioritising sustainability.

In their words… a lifestyle store - stocking design-led goods, long lasting in form & function. I am yet to visit but from the picture I’ve seen on their socials it looks jam packed with beautiful things, and I’m sure anyone I don’t find a gift for at our market, will be getting a gift from here.

When is a better time for cheese than at Christmas?! Grate is an independent cheesemonger, selling a wide range of delicious local, british and european cheeses. For lovers of the traditional classic cheeses or adventurous foodies - Grate offers expertly chosen collections as well as scrumptious hidden treasures you’ve never had the pleasure of tasting yet! We love them because they proudly represent the toon in their lovely cheeses (and we love Moz and her cheese puns).

Dene’s Deli has been serving Newcastle with specialist made and mouth-wateringly good sandwiches, cakes, nibbles, platters and salads for over 25 years. We love them because they are inclusive, catering to everyone’s dietary needs; are constantly fundraising money for charity and are proud to support the North east - stocking local products and ingredients! Offering platters, hampers, desserts, cheese, dressings, granola and much more - why not grab a sandwich while you shop.

Famous among the geordies for their adventurously scrumptious sweet treats and home of the brownio. Cake Stories offer vegan and gluten free bakes that can be posted through a letterbox (!), as well as cocktails, breakfast, their own bags of ground coffee, digital gift cards and (coming soon) a subscription service.

Fancying a winter brunch? Aiden’s Kitchen serve heavenly breakfasts, brunch, coffee and cakes all day long. They also offer celebration cakes, generous boxes of sweet treats as well as their iconic ‘pancake stack’ T-shirts . Arlo is a homely and quirky bistro, bar and cafe filled with Alpine memorabilia and retro decor to get you in the festive mood. You can sit outside and stay warm as they have heaters and a secret garden (which is dog friendly). We love them as their food is seasonal and home-cooked with locally sourced ingredients. They also have an in-house bakery where you can purchase scones, quiches or celebration cakes.

1901 Caffe Bistro - Jesmond

Decked out with vintage decor along with a joyful and homely atmosphere, 1901 offers a wide range of breakfast, lunch, desserts, mammoth hot-chocolates, coffee, shakes and health boosters as well as festive foods around christmas time.
